September Training Camp 2015: a message from the Honorary Secretary
When is it?
Sunday 20th September to Sunday 27th September 2015.
Where is it?
Hardraw Old School Bunkhouse, Hawes, Yorkshire Dales
What is it?
A training camp prior to Michaelmas Term to kick off a top cross-country season for Cambridge (i.e. one in which we take Oxford to the cleaners at every Varsity race). We will be staying in a self-catering bunkhouse in Hardraw, which is a hamlet in the Yorkshire Dales, complete with piano, table-tennis table and only 100 metres away from the Green Dragon Pub which is home to England's highest single drop waterfall!
Typical training camp activities include: running (unsurprisingly), cooking, eating, games, relaxing and some people have a drink or two, or nine. Basically, it's a week with the Hare and Hounds, what more do you want?
One thing I would like to highlight, is that training camp is for ALL abilities. For some reason, the name "training camp" and tales of the hundred point challenge have instilled a belief that training camp is only for guys churning out hundred mile weeks. Injured and recovering athletes regularly attend and still have a great time.
How much will it cost?
This isn't entirely fixed, and does depend on numbers. The food and accommodation bill is split and worked out afterwards, and is likely to be around £80 this year. Alcohol consumption is worked out separately and individually added on, as is any meals out etc. There is a £25 deposit to secure your place.
How do I get there?
There will be a mixture of people driving and taking public transport, we will be able to liaise with each other about lifts nearer the time. Hardraw is quite easily accessible from both the M6 and A1. The nearest train station is Garsdale which is 1h30 from Leeds. There is then a 10 minute bus ride to Hawes or you might be able to get a lift from someone driving.
And most importantly, how do I sign up?
Sign up is very much open, contact Emma Elston (see contacts page for an email) as soon as you realise that you want to be part of it!
Yours in organising, Emma Elston CUH&H Honorary Secretary 2015-2016
