Training
The Hare and Hounds' training follows the traditional British athletics year, with cross country training being predominant for the first two terms before moving over to the track in the summer term. However several of our athletes start introducing marathon sessions in the build up to London (the Varsity Marathon) or quicker track sessions to run indoors during the second term.
There is training every day, although not everyone is expected to come to all the runs. An example week during the winter is:
MONDAY7.20AM - Morning steady run (30-50 mins)
5PM - Afternoon steady run (30-50 mins) TUESDAY3PM - Grass intervals session
WEDNESDAY7.20AM - Morning steady run (30-50 mins)
5PM - Afternoon steady run (30-50 mins) THURSDAY3PM - Tempo Run
FRIDAY5.30PM - Tea Run (easy 30 mins run)
SATURDAYRace or training session
SUNDAY10AM - Long Run (60-100 mins)
The best way to keep up to date is to sign up to the training mailing list here, where the weekly training is emailed round on Sunday evenings.
If you want more information on the type of training we do and why, check out the FAQs. For links to some of the most common training routes we run, click here.
Since September 2012 our club coach has been Phil O'Dell who has worked with individual athletes as well as the whole squad to help in their development. If you would like to contact Phil about training please email the club captain whose email can be found here and who can then put you in contact with him.
If in doubt the Captain's email is the gold standard for each weekly schedule. If it says a Tempo run at 5pm, the Tempo will go at 5pm!
