The Hare and Hounds’ training follows the traditional British athletics year, with cross-country being the main focus over the winter (Michaelmas and Lent terms) before moving over to the track in the summer (Easter term). However some of our athletes start introducing marathon sessions in the build up to London (the Varsity Marathon), whereas those having an indoor season do quicker track sessions in the new year.
There is some form of training on most days, although nobody is expected to come to all the runs. An example week during the winter is:
Monday
7:20AM – Morning easy run (30-60 mins)
OR
5PM – Afternoon easy run (30-60 mins)
Tuesday
3PM – Grass interval session
OR
6:30PM – Road interval session
Wednesday
7:20AM – Morning easy run (30-60 mins)
OR
6:30PM – Evening easy run (45-60 mins)
Thursday
5PM – Steady/discomfort run (25-45 mins medium/hard effort)
Friday
5PM – Tea Run (easy 30 mins)
OR
Rest
Saturday
10:30AM – Grass interval session
OR
Race
Sunday
10AM – Long Run (60-120 mins)
The best way to keep up to date is to sign up to the training mailing list, where the weekly training is circulated by the club captain on Sunday evenings.

If in doubt, the captain’s email is the gold standard for each week’s schedule. If it says session at 3pm, the session will start at 3pm!
